Weatherboarding
Weather boarding is mainly decorative and rarely structural. It is often used to break up the appearance of a wall and in these circumstances usually replaces the outer brickwork. It is fixed to vertical battens which are attached to the block wall. this is the inner wall of the house. In this case there would be cavity where the weather boarding showed.
As mentioned above it is usually decorative. It does not support windows or roof structures, Roof structures are supported by the the block wall which is the inner skin of the house. Because there is no cavity the weather boarding is what its name implies. It protects the outside of the blockwork wall from the weather.
Replacing
Why would you replace the weather boarding.
The appearance of paint peeling from wood does not look good
When wooden weather boarding gets old it becomes differcult to paint. The resultant dampness causes the wood to expand and contract to a greater degree than it did when new and therefore the paint peels off. This in turn allows even more exposure to the weather eventually leading to the wood rotting.
Swish upvc boards are a near perfect match for most sizes and styles of wooden weather boarding with the advantage of never rotting or needing painting. They come in white or brown woodgrain finish and the colour is guaranteed not to fade For a free quotation send your requirements to
